How to Dress for an Internship

One of my favorite parts of my summer thus far has been doing an amazing internship. It combines everything I love: inclusivity in beauty, writing articles, and social media. While my internship is virtual, many of my friends are doing in-person internships or getting job experience in an office environment. However, all of them have shared one common struggle: what to wear to the office. I recently attended a work-related event with my dad and went through the exact same struggle. It was hard to find outfits that were work-appropriate but didn’t make me look older than I really am.

While I was packing for this work trip/event, I came up with a few outfit concepts that proved to be the perfect mix between being professional yet youthful. The first thing I realized when I was packing was that midi dresses with sneakers never fail, especially in the daytime. If your work environment is more formal or you have some sort of work shenanigan later in the evening, switch out those sneakers for a pair of block heels. Block heels don’t make an outfit look overly mature, yet they add formality. Second, it is time for my favorite part: the blazer. Throw a blazer over your outfit and bam! You are ready to go into the office with minimal effort. At school, I have to wear a blazer almost every day to class, and my friends know that I love blazers – I am not being sarcastic. I think they are so fun to style! I have found that it is crucial to pair a blazer with a youthful dress underneath, or, alternatively, you can wear a fun blazer (I am currently loving colorful tweed blazers) paired with a more classic dress. However, I would not recommend wearing a basic dress with a basic blazer or else you may look too professional and older than you really are.

No matter your summer plans – even if they are sitting by the pool all day – they are productive and exciting! This particular blog post goes out to those who are currently immersed in an office environment, but I hope that this blog post can be your destination to find office outfits whether that is now or in the future.
