My List of Must-Read Books for Summer

It’s becoming apparent that summer is going to consist of a little more downtime this year, but a great way to enjoy this time is by reading. I’ve been doing more reading than usual over quarantine, and I cannot wait to continue this. I have found some amazing books over the past few months that I love and have enjoyed so much, so I am listing them here for you guys to enjoy. You can order these books by clicking on the title. If you have read something good recently, please let me know. I’m always looking for new books to add to my list!

Educated by Tara Westover

A recently published memoir, Educated is about a girl named Tara who must survive challenges, big and small, in order to reach her goal of being educated. I highly recommend this book, as it is both engaging and inspiring while highly entertaining.

Pride by Ibi Zoboi

Pride is a remix of Pride and Prejudice, and I absolutely fell in love with this book! It is about a girl named Zuri who is forced to deal with gentrification, love interests, and staying connected to her Afro-Latino heritage all at the same time. This book is sweet, and I felt like I was friends with each of the characters by the end.

Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng

I’m not going to lie, I have not finished this one yet, but so far I love it. Little Fires Everywhere is about two families who are brought together by their children. The book starts off when one of the families’ home burns down by “little fires everywhere.” Don’t worry, that’s not a spoiler!

Becoming by Michelle Obama

Yes another memoir on this list, but Becoming is definitely one to read. Obama narrates her story from growing up on the South Side of Chicago to becoming the First Lady of the United States and much, much more. This book is beyond interesting and worth the read, regardless of your political views may I add.

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

Gone Girl is thrilling and exciting. It is about a wife’s disappearance and all of the drama and turmoil that follows it, specifically towards her husband and other people in her life. This book is as captivating as it gets, and I could not stop turning the page.

Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli

Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda is about a not-openly gay boy named Simon and his life filled with friends, theater, and family. However, a private email falls into the wrong hands that causes Simon to be pushed out of his comfort zone and changes his life forever. I definitely recommend reading this!
