How to Pack Efficiently

Summer is in full swing, so I wanted to share a travel related post with you guys. I am actually writing this on an airplane, and I am so proud of myself for packing everything for my trip in just a carry-on! After some trial and error, I have discovered some very helpful tips for packing efficiently that I want to share with you guys. Please note that this is coming from an over-packer, so if I can pack lightly, pretty much anyone can! Of course, for longer trips, it can be impossible to pack light, but these tips are super helpful to limit the number of items you’re you’re packing for any size trip.

#1) Pack your favorites

While traveling, I always want to feel good in what I’m wearing, and I have a few pieces that I know I can count on to make me feel great. So I always pack those favorite pieces because I know that I will be excited to wear them on my trip.

#2) Pack by outfit

I always pack by outfit because it makes my life a lot easier once I arrive on my trip because I don’t have to think about putting together outfits, and packing by outfit allows me to mix and match. This reduces the number of separate pieces to pack and saves space.

#3) Pack neutral shoes

Shoes take up a lot of space in bags, and I sometimes don’t even wear half the shoes I pack. One of my biggest tips for packing efficiently is to bring “neutral” shoes that can match with all of the outfits that you are packing. If you know that you need shoes for multiple occasions on your trip, I suggest packing a casual shoe and a more formal pair of shoes. I always pack a pair of casual sneakers that are cute and simple, and most importantly, comfortable. And for a nicer pair of shoes, I usually bring my favorite pair of sandals.

#4) Re-wear

I used to think that I needed a new set of clothes and pajamas for every day and night, but once I realized I could re-wear clothes, my life got a lot easier! Re-wearing allows you to pack half as much as you probably were originally planning on packing. Depending on your trip, laundry could be available, but even if it is not, re-wearing clothes is perfectly fine, within reason of course.
