10 Things to Do While Social Distancing

I’m back! I took a long break from the blog but found myself really missing making content. Not to mention, I have a ton of time to make content due to social distancing, which is the topic for today’s post.

First of all, I hope everyone reading this is safe and healthy. Remember to wash your hands and use hand sanitizer as much as you can! Secondly, millions of people around the world are social distancing to help reduce the number of coronavirus cases. I am a week into social distancing, and I haven’t gone crazy yet because I’ve been managing to keep myself busy by doing things I love and don’t have the time for in a regular week. So, if you are social distancing with me, here are 10 things to do while doing so:

1. Get on the health grind!

I am usually unmotivated to work out and eat healthy during a regular week. The last thing I want to do after coming home from a long day of school is to run on the treadmill. No, thank you. But since we’re all stuck at home, there’s no excuse to not workout. There are plenty of no-equipment workouts online that can be completed in the comfort of your home. There are tons of dance classes, HIIT workouts, ab exercises, and so much more all at your tips of you fingers.

And for healthy eating… stock up on healthy foods from the grocery store if you haven’t already. Vegetables, frozen fruit (great for smoothies!), and bars are great healthy foods that last a long time.

2. Read

I know, compared to Netflix, reading seems boring, but reading is so important, and can be super entertaining when it’s the right book. It is super easy to download a book on your phone, tablet, or computer on iBooks, and you’re set. Audio books are a good option too. You can listen to one while doing your spring cleaning…

3. Start learning a language

Apps like Duolingo are great for basic language learning. Even if you only learn a little bit, languages are beneficial in so many ways.

4. Start a new show

There are so many shows and movies to watch that are available to you, and this is the perfect time to start watching something. Netflix, Hulu, Apple TV, and more have so much entertainment to binge. I just finished both Cheer and Love is Blind on Netflix, and I recommend both to anyone looking for a new show.

5. Try new recipes

Whether you’re baking a cake or mixing a salad, this is a great time to try new recipes. I never have time to do this on a regular weekday and rarely have time on the weekends. Like workouts, there are millions of recipes available online.

6. Spring cleaning

This is an ideal time to clean out your closet, bathroom, and shelves. Make a pile of things you no longer need and donate them once social distancing is no longer necessary. School provides a lot of resources for less fortunate kids, so schools shutting down due to this pandemic is disrupting many people’s lives. So go out and donate to those in need, because I guarantee that people in your community are affected by coronavirus. But, of course, wait to go out and donate until it is safe to do so!

7. Sleeeepppp

Sleep is so important, and most people, including me, hardly get enough during the week. Now enough said, go get those (much needed) 10 hours!

8. Learn an instrument

The title is self-explanatory here, but there are tons of Youtube videos that go in-depth about how to play various instruments. Like learning a language, learning how to play an instrument, even a little bit, is so beneficial and so therapeutic, which is much needed for a lot of us during this stressful time.

9. Start a garden

Starting a garden is a fun activity that also supplies delicious, healthy food and can also prevent you from going to the grocery store, which is especially useful while social distancing. You can order all the supplies you need online.

10. Self-care

Whether you’re taking a full on self-care day, or just doing a simple face mask, self-care is so important. Some of my favorite things to do for self-care include bubble baths, face masks, hair masks, doing my nails, meditation, etc.

Great suggestions, and we’re following some of them (I’m not big on face masks, for example). We’ve also self-quarantined on Tessie and will be taking her out to sail this afternoon into the COVID-19-free waters off Beaufort! Be healthy!
